Boston, and remembing my childhood...

When I was young, I used to visit Mr. Rogers neighborhood through my TV like so many of us born in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

When I was in college, I got to live in Mr. Rogers neighborhood and see him at the local community center pool.   Then, unfortunately, he passed away.

When I lived in Boston, I forgot about Mr. Rogers.

Now that I've swapped the east coast for west, jellie shoes for ballet flats and sky high heels, I'm amazed that he's still got some wisdom to teach me.  After checking on my Boston friends almost daily these past two weeks, my heart goes out to them.  Having a grown up in the Washington DC metro area and living through the uncertainty that came with having a family member working in the pentagon on September 11th, my heart goes out to all those that have ever had to go through that emotional trauma with the recent attacks in Boston.  And for those helpers, like my Tim, who continually run into the flames to help others instead of running away, thanks.  My thoughts are with you.

Till next time,
Sara

Oh Martha...

So, as I trolled through blogland a few weeks ago I came across a post by Katie on Bower Power discussing Martha Stewart's list, "30 things Everyone Should Know"...guess who decided that they'd tackle that list!  As I approach thirty, I figure, there are now 30 things Martha thinks I should know how to do.  Stay tuned for posts about how this all goes down, some of the tasks are easy and I may throw in my own "Pink" twist, others are going to be a challenge for me.  I've searched pinterest for some help with these tasks so if you want to complete them with me, check out my pinterest board here.  Without further ado, the list:
1. Create a home safety kit
2. Paint a room
3. Arrange flowers
4. Design a fruit centerpiece
5. Make a bed
6. Set the table
7. Prepare a green salad
8. Mix a margarita
9. Make a bolognese sauce
10. Eat a lobster
11. Make chocolate chip cookies
12. Carve a Turkey
13. Prepare a roast turkey
14. Make a grilled cheese
15. Make french toast
16. Make the perfect omlette
17. Cook fluffy rice
18. Bake a chocolate cake
19. Assemble a BLT
20. Prepare pancakes
21. Make crudites
22. Tie a bow and necktie
23. Load a dishwasher
24. Do the Laundry
25. Remove stains on linens and clothes
26. Iron a shirt
27. Open a Champagne bottle
28. Brew a cup of tea
29. Take a good photograph
30. Pack a suitcase

Wish me luck, and check back as I knock things off the list in future posts!

Makeup Madness Monday - the well defined natural eye

I work in an office, and generally wear a three colored “career look” during the week, but I like to tone it down on the weekends when I’m just running around the house or out running errands.  Toning it down doesn’t mean I don’t wear makeup, just that I go with a more natural look…because I don’t know about you, but I always wake up with flawless skin, well defined eyes and plump pink lips.  I found this tutorial on pinterest and decided to try it out for casual Friday – It was simple to do and I go tons of compliments.  The trick is the smugger brush to really blend that eyeliner into the lid color.
How do you like to wear your eye makeup?  Are you a glamour girl all the time or do you like to go more natural on the weekend too?  Try this out and leave me a comment, I’d love to know what you think?

Step 1: Highlighting your eyes
Sweep a light shade across your entire lid.

Step 2: Defining the crease Sweep a medium shade in a ‘C’ shape from the crease of your eye to your lash line.  Blend, blend, and blend!
Step 3: Line your upper lid.  Don’t go all the way to the tear duct, just start at the corner of your eye working inward in a series of small dashes till you get to the first small lashes.  I suggest small dashes as they’re easier to keep straight and thin than trying to draw one long line – at least until you’ve been doing it for a while.
Step 4: Blend, Blend, Blend some more!
Take your smudging brush and blend the eyeliner up onto the lid and outward from the corner of your eye.  Follow the natural curve of your lower lit when you do this.  If the shadow or liner gets too low on the outside your eyes will appear droopy.
Step 5: Mascara trick to achieve a fake lash look:
·                Start with the point of the lash wand and brush mascara onto the base of your lashes.
·                Turn wand sideways and place at base of lashes.  Shimmy to get the bristles between your lashes then comb to tip.  Repeat a couple times, as necessary to smooth out any lumps.
·                Turn your wand vertically and move it in an up and down motion guiding the lashes to curl up and away from your eye.

Tada!  A beautifully defined eye that looks natural.  You totally woke up looking that refreshed and awake; I know you did – the coffee’s totally just for show! ;)

Happy Monday!

Fab Four (from left to right)
1.      Mary Kay Makeup Finishing Spray by Skindinavia, $18
2.   Limited-Edition Mary Kay Lip Lacquer with Mini Retractable Lip Brush in Chai Latte or Pink Pagoda, $16
3.      Limited-Edition Mary Kay  Nail Lacquer in Blue Lotus or Pink Bamboo, $9
4.      Limited-Edition Mineral Eye Color in Garden Sky, $20
**Bonus item, the Special-Edition Beauty That Counts Mary Kay Mini Compact (unfilled), $16**

I attended the Mary Kay Career Conference in San Diego at the end of March and was given both the Finishing Spray and the Chai Latte Lip Lacquer in my registration goodie bag.  Along with a necklace and set of earrings I totally wore to the second day of the conference…who loves free stuff, I do I do!  Don’t lie, you do too!
They’re AWESOME!!!  The Finishing spray really does help keep my makeup set for 16 hours – and I can usually get a little oily in the afternoon, but with this product my makeup doesn’t move even with a little oil, no shine either!  I can’t sing its praises loud enough.  The Lip Lacquer is awesome as well for those who love a more natural look.  I’ll probably wear it more on the weekends when I wear a more natural (though flawless, of course) face.  The Mary Kay Nail Lacquers are beautiful as expected and are great spring colors.  You can even layer them to create a “spotted egg” look layering the pink over the blue, and the eye palette looks great on any skin shade and eye color combo!  Check all these and more on my website or the spring Mary Kay Lookbook.

I Believe in Pink.
I Believe that laughing is the best Calorie Burner.
I believe in kissing,
kissing a lot.
I Believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong.
I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.
I Believe that tomorrow is another day,
